The Beiseker Fire Department (BVD) is dusting off their equipment and getting ready for operation after a six-month hiatus.
Fire Chief Bob Ursu has been quoted as saying that the department folded due to a "breakdown of communication between everyone involved."
Currently, Rocky View County is servicing the area until BVD is back up and running.
"We have a medical team right now for medical response. We are getting together firefighters doing shifts out here at the hall, but we are in the process of doing that, we aren't quite ready yet," explained Ursu.
Ursu had retired a couple of years prior from the fire department, but made the decision to step back up.
"Well, I wanted to get it back up and running again and change things around and get things better this time," he continued. "It worked really well for three or four years, but things change and get difficult."
One thing is clear to Ursu: there is a need for a fire department in Beiseker as the department responds to about 300 calls per year.
"We do need a fire department," he urged. "We have an agreement with Rocky View (County) to service us with fire protection."
