With it turning colder outside this time of year, many people look to take the holiday in warmer climates. With reports of tourists being either injured or killed while on vacation, precautions should be taken before you leave the country.

Many are confused if they have coverage outside of the country let alone the province. "If you're outside, even our province, you have to have travel insurance because you are not covered by our provincial health plan," comments Tania Johnson from Centre Street Insurance.

Johnson offers another piece of travel advice especially if you are out of the country, "knowing your area is a big thing and just knowing the environment that you are going down to. Also, having people know where you are going, too, so people are aware of where you're going. When you expect to be back."

If a situation does happen while you are away, in Johnson's ten-year experience, the insurance companies are great to deal with as long as you are upfront about any health issues you have before purchasing the insurance.

A little extra piece of mind as you prepare to travel doesn't hurt.
