The biggest musical weekend of the year is just around the corner in Drumheller.
On Friday evening, country music star John Michael Montgomery will take the stage at the Passion Play site on the west end of town. On Saturday, Canadian rock legend Randy Bachman is the featured guest.
"If you've already got tickets and you'd like to meet one of those people, John Michael Montgomery or Randy Bachman, check Drum online (www.drumhelleronline.com), there's a contest to meet those guys," reported Vance Neudorf, the executive director of the Canadian Badlands Passion Play.
"Call the office, 823-2001, online badlandsamp.com works great too, because then you can choose your own seat right there," he added.
The concerts continue a tradition that began in 2015 when Canadian rocker Tom Cochrane came to Drumheller to play the Passion Play concert stage.
"Tom Cochrane said we were the Red Rocks (Colorado) Stadium of Canada," remembered Neudorf. "That's stellar acoustics, just fantastic scenery, it's incredible. He said it was the best concert he'd played other than in front of the pyramids in Egypt."
Both Friday's and Saturday's shows get underway at 7:30 p.m. Montgomery will be fronted by Canadian country recording artist Charlie Major, while Bachman's warm-up act is Hey Romeo, featuring Drumheller native Rob Shapiro.
