It's the first day of school for a number of students in the Drumheller area.
Prairieland Regional schools, including Morrin and Delia, have their first day of classes on August 30, as does St. Anthony's Catholic School in Drumheller.
"It's very exciting to have all the kids back," admitted St. Anthony's Principal JoAnne Akerboom. "That same nervousness and apprehension that the kids feel, the teachers feel the same thing, but there's also a lot of excitement, you can just feel the buzz in the hallways."
Akerboom believes it's going to be a very busy year for her school.
"We're up this year: we'll find out and settle after this week, but our enrolment is up this year."
"We actually had an open house and meet the teacher," she told Drum FM. "Our parking lot was like the parking lot of a mall at Christmas time. I think most of our parents came last night (Aug. 29) so the kids had a chance to bring their school supplies in and meet their teachers. It really helped this morning."
Schools in the Golden Hills Division, including DVSS, Greentree and Wheatland Crossing, head back to class next Tuesday, September 4.
