A Hanna area man is dead after a weekend accident with an off-road all terrain vehicle.
RCMP were called at around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22 to a rural property north of Hanna where they discovered a 56 year old man had rolled his three wheeled ATV.
He was pronounced dead soon after. An RCMP news release says not wearing a helmet is believed to have been a factor in the seriousness of his head injury.
Mounties note that although rollovers are possible on both three and four wheeled ATV's, the three wheeled versions tip over more readily, especially during sharp turns.
Alberta legislation does not require the use of helmets on private land, but RCMP recommend that people wear helmets at all times when operating ATV's. It's also recommended, especially when riding alone, that you let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.
