This is the 25th year for the Canadian Badlands Passion Play and the site on Drumheller's west end hit another milestone on Saturday, July 14, their 250,000th visitor.
Executive Director Vance Neudorf reported they knew in advance that guest number 9,743 would be the one, so they were ready at the box office.
"Kerri Paviglianiti from Calgary called in and we didn't tell her at the time, we just let her book her tickets, which were way at the back because it was a pretty full show," he related. "Yesterday (Saturday) I walked up with four new tickets and said hey folks, it's your lucky day, I get to move you to the front. So I got to the front, told (the audience) the whole story about the numbers and I said 'and Kerri, you also won!"
Paviglianiti won a gift package with passes to various attractions around town, including tickets to the Carmen Opera, the Corb Lund concert and the new Laser and Water show coming to the Badlands Amphitheatre this summer.
"We're really excited about this new version (of the play); we had people applauding in the middle of the show last (Saturday) night, which has never happened in 25 years,"noted Neudorf. "The high priest was singing a really powerful number and people were just right into it; great stuff."
"We are right now at our highest ever for this time of the year," he added. "We're hoping that we're going to see really good numbers, the weather's looking good, because it's in our 25th year and that would be really great."
