The good news is ATCO Electric is not leaving Drumheller anytime soon. The bad news is that can't be said for a couple of their employees.
"We did make a slight change, where we have chosen to centralise our mechanical work," explained Alan Gano, District Manager for ATCO Electric in East Central Alberta. "We won't be doing mechanical work on our fleet vehicles in Drumheller anymore so we've closed the mechanical shop in Drumheller."
"We're looking at a different mechanism to get that work done and so we've chosen to close the shop," he elaborated. "That impacted two employees in the Drumheller area, who have been retained, just not in Drumheller."
The news comes less than two years after ATCO Electric spent $13.8 million to build a new Drumheller headquarters at the west end of the Hi-grade Industrial Park and Gano says they're not about to abandon that.
"We have over 40 employees in that building and again, we're always looking for efficiencies and the like, and this is one that we've chosen to move on recently.
