ATB Financial is on the hunt for a new boss after president and CEO Dave Mowat announced his retirement effective June 30, 2018. chris sadlerChris Sadler.

"How would I describe Dave? Like a blue collar working guy in a white collar job," responded Chris Sadler, the manager of ATB Financial in Drumheller. "He remembered everyone's name without their name tag, he was able to make personal connections really well and remember those and bring them up next time he saw you, so he was an exceptional leader and boss."

Mowat was recognized as Canada's top CEO by Glassdoor in 2016 and Alberta's Business Person of the Year in 2014. He led the largest Alberta-based financial institution for 11 years.

"The head of your company doesn't just randomly walk in one day and be like, I'm retiring. At least I hope not," joked Sadler. "It's a great opportunity for us to reflect on everything that Dave did and how well he set us up and positioned us."

"I think the timing was right with where we're at to bring on a new head of the company and see how they continue to build on from what Dave got," he continued.

ATB Board Chair Brian Hesje said a search process will begin immediately, with plans to announce Mowat's successor in May.
