More problems at the Drumheller Aquaplex.
After being closed for eight months while a new gradual entry pool liner was installed, the Aquaplex water slide has been shut down for repairs.
"Shortly after our final inspection of the pool, our staff noticed that the water slide pump literally started blowing apart," explained Darryl Drohomerski, the town's CAO. "We thought it was a good opportunity at the time not just to replace it with the same kind of pump, but look at something that was actually better matched to the new pool design."
"You don't plan for a breakdown, but it gives us the opportunity to put in a pump that's better matched between the pool and the slide," he elaborated. "One of the issues that we had with the plumbing changes in the pool was that we were really forcing a lot of water down the slide and it was actually draining the pool a little bit."
Of course, public pool pumps aren't the kind of thing that's kept in stock at your local dealer, so the pump has been ordered from the manufacturer. Drohomerski thinks it could take a couple of weeks to arrive and one day to install. In the meantime, with the rest of the pool still open, he doesn't think too many people will be put out.
"I think it was probably used a similar amount as before," he told 99.5 Drum-FM. "I certainly think there was a lot more people in the actual shallow end of the pool than there was an increase in the water slide traffic."
