Local swimmers have been eager to hit the water this coming fall.
Since May 1, the inside pool at the Drumheller Aquaplex has been shut for renovations that include a gradual entry and more.
"They've been concentrating at getting the pool decking and pool removed, so the concretes starting to come out and a lot of very precision saw cutting to be able to remove the concrete," reported Darryl Drohomerski, the Town's Director of Infrastructure Services.
"The interiors been painted, there's been new heating ventilation and air conditioning installed, we've been upgrading the showers and some of the steam room facilities."
Since there's been quite a few upgrades so far, when will the new gradual entry be installed?
"The new pool liner will probably start getting installed Monday (July 10) or Tuesday (July 11) and that will continue on for a few months, so we'll start to see some real change happening there," outlined Drohomerski.
The renovated pool will be completely different than it was.
"The new gradual entry will be kind of like going to a beach where you know you don't just jump right into the water. You basically will have something that's six or eight inches deep and then go down to the three foot level and deeper. It's great for families to bring infants into the edge of the pool and don't have to worry about putting them into a three foot setting right away," Drohomerski explained.
The competition timeline is set for the end of September 2017.
