Crews have isolated the problem with pool.

The Drumheller Aquaplex is officially closed until further notice.

Town of Drumheller officials, divers and engineers have officially identified the issue with the Drumheller Aquaplex pool. A crack in one of the drains in the deep end of the pool.

"When they re-renovated the pool, they put in two new drain structures in the deep end," Julia fielding continues. "Unfortunately, one of those drains structures has developed a great wide split in it along the side. So what's happening is there is a gap now and the water is going out as it leaks through that space."

Initially, crews believed the problem to be the hydro-static valve in the pools deep end.

"(It) was totally unexpected. What is means is, we need to empty the pool and go down to inspect the actual damage," Fielding said.

The pool will be closed until engineers and crews fix the issue and according to fielding, this will affect many users of the facility.

"We have a number of regulars who come and do lane swimming and aquacise and things. Unfortunately, they're going to be affected," Fielding closed.
