Some say elected officials don't explain much, but that isn't the case with Kneehill County.

Once a year, Kneehill County sets up a meeting for their rate payers to understand how the last year ended up.

"We're just finalizing our budgets and financials as well to give them an update on how we stand financially, what we have accomplished and what some of our plans are for this coming year," explained Kneehill County Reeve Bob Long.

Long added that he realizes many are unhappy with the way elected officials keep information, so that's why he created these meetings and other ways to communicate with the rate payers.

"We are on social media now, we tweet out important things that are happening in our council meetings, we have citizen engagement meetings to develop policy on different topics and we have these rate payer meetings where we try to sit down and explain," he noted. "What I'm concerned with is that we do give them the opportunity to come and listen to what is actual factual."

The Kneehill County Community rate payer meeting is scheduled for April 19 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 at the Acme Community Centre.

"We're hoping we will have time for one on one questions from the floor and then our council members are going to circulate and sit at tables, Long added. "Some people don't want top stand up in front of a crowd and ask a question. You have to give them an opportunity to get things off their chest as well."
