The Canadian Cancer Society is hoping the Alberta legislation will ban people 18 and younger from using indoor tanning beds.
In 2015, the act was passed by the legislature, but it's been on hold ever since.
"Tanning isn't what it used to be years ago at all. Everyone's taking more caution with tanning. They're more coming in to tan to prep their skin for going on that hot holiday. It's definitely not what it used to be," stated Cindy Poland, owner of Bold Efexx Hair Shop.
"You're going to do worse damage going into the sun and getting blisters."
Alberta is the only province in Canada that allows anyone under the age of 18 to use indoor tanning beds.
"When I was a teenager, it was a big thing to go tan every other day for 20 minutes, but it is so not like that anymore," Poland mentioned.
At Bold Effex, anyone who is under the age of 18 does need parental consent to use an indoor tanning bed.
"We do have that odd graduate that wants to come in to get a bit of a base before graduation, but they're right under 18 and yes we do get parent consent."
