This week is Career Week in Alberta.
Career Week presents opportunities to job seeking individuals through career fairs such as one put on by the Government of Alberta's Community and Social Services, here in the valley.
"We ask that you come and book an appointment with one of our career counselors," said Sagan Gordon from MH Enterprises Employment Services. "We will then help you figure out where you're going, whatyou're doing and basically anything that you need. We can give you some direction."
Services and tools available MH Enterprises include creating or updating a professional resume and cover letter. They also provide connections and access to jobs all over the world.
"We have a labour market resource centre that has a lot of information: public access computer, self services resources for clients as well as tow staff members on at all time," informed Ron Major from the Hanna Learning Centre. "We can help people with resumes, cover letters, interview preparations and work search training. Just about anything that deals with reconnecting them to the labour market."
The Hanna Learning Centre is also offering a Job Seeker Open House tomorrow, Friday April 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
"We are providing lunch. We are hoping to have several employers from the community who are long standing, viable employers within the community," said Major. "(They will) interface with clients and people who may be looking for work. They can come in and talk to us on how we can support them. Also, they're (the employers) to offer people potential employment opportunities as well."
Major also spoke about working closely with the coal affected Community Task Force trying to come up with options for those in the community, including avenues for entrepreneurship.
