Dozens of Acklands-Grainger stores across the country are shutting their doors, and that includes Drumheller.

"We were really proud to have operated in Drumheller since 1988 and really this change is just a function of what is happening within retail and distribution. We're able to provide a high level of service without a physical storefront in many communities," stated Mike Langdon, Senior Director of Communications for Acklands-Grainger.

The Drumheller branch will be closing in late July 2017.

"We will still have a local sales force on the ground serving the community. We're taking an increasing number of our customers online and by phone and we're really able to provide great service directly out of our major distribution centre in Edmonton," Langdon noted.

"The trends that we're seeing, we really believe that they are permanent and irreversible toward more online ordering. There is still a decent amount of ordering that takes place through the phone and the big thing with our distribution centre is the ability to ship the product directly to customers."

The closure of the Drumheller branch will affect three permanent jobs, but Langdon said those leaving Acklands-Grainger have been offered assistance to transition into their next career step.

"The support has actually been quite strong, people understand where we're headed and they've been using the branch less themselves, so we feel really good about our ability to provide all of our Drumheller customers with great service," expressed Langdon.

If someone wants to find out more information on the closure and how to place an order, how can they do so?

"Best place to contact, for now, is the local branch. They are equipped to answer questions and then after that, we are working with our sellers to provide phone access to get all questions answered. There is also a website, is the place to go to really understand the product and services we have available to service customers," concluded Langdon.
