Update, Dec. 18: Drumheller RCMP reports that a serious heavy truck accident has one victim still recovering in a Calgary hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Carillion has put up flashers to warn drivers about the damaged guardrail, and a repair is expected soon. Drivers are urged to remain cautious.
With the road conditions being icy due to the freezing rain, it makes driving dangerous in town and on the highways.
At around noon, there was an accident reported near the John Deere dealership just east of the Drumheller Landfill. It looks as if the vehicle was travelling eastbound just at where the road veers off to the left. The driver skidded to the right towards the ditch and rolled the vehicle in a deep section of the ditch.
"The driver is going to the hospital, didn't look like anything serious but you never know until you get in (the hospital) and get checked out," stated Cst. Rachel Pergunas.
"The driver was able to get out of the vehicle. We don't want to see any more of these (accidents) today though, so everybody take care."
This is not the only accident of the day as there was a collision at 3 Avenue and 8 Street involving two vehicles and a street sign. It looked as if there was no injuries at the time. Also Highway 575 towards Carbon has reported vehicles off the highway.
According to 511 Alberta, the highways around Drumheller are all partially covered with slippery sections.
