A joint team between a local country music star and the Salvation Army Food Bank has been considered a success.

On April 15, Jaydee Bixby performed at the Newcastle Hotel with all donations going towards the local Salvation Army.

"We were very pleased when we went to pick up the donations. There was a generous amount of non-perishables, a few bins full, which will help us out tremendously at this time and they also collected $395 in cash donations," stated Captain Jennifer Hillier with the Drumheller Salvation Army Food Bank.

This event couldn't have come at a better time since right now, it's a bit of a difficult time for our local food bank.

"We don't have a food drive here in the spring until the end of summer, so this has been very timely and will help us out over the next few weeks," she noted. "This time of the year does become our struggle time. We do see at the end of the year things go up a bit because of the big food drive we do at the end of August and Christmas time. Demand has been very steady, so while we have things come in we also see a lot go out to help families."

Hillier expressed to 99.5 Drum FM that she wants to encourage anyone who can give, to please donate.

"I just really encourage if there are folks out there who can give, remember when you're picking up your groceries, remember those bins at the grocery stores. If you can maybe pick up a little bit extra, put it in the bins, we pick them up a couple of times a week and it goes right on the shelves and into the hampers that we distribute," expressed Hillier.

Hillier and the Drumheller Salvation Army Food Bank want to say thank you to Jaydee Bixby and our local residents for all the support.

"Just a big thank you to Jaydee Bixby for doing this event. He approached us as part of his cross-country campaign, so we're so grateful to him and those who came out and gave generously. Thank you so much."
