A small town girl made waves in the Miss World Canada pageant, getting the title of Miss Starland County.
Michelle Sharrun competed this past weekend and now she will be travelling to Toronto for Nationals.
"I go for Miss Canada and it's for a whole week. I go there, do a whole bunch of fundraising, walk around in my crown and sash and I go for Miss Canada," explained Sharrun.
Sharrun found out about the pageant from an ad on Facebook.
"The reason I was interested in it is because it's all about how you carry yourself; you don't have to be six feet tall, you don't have to be 100 pounds, you can be whatever size you want and it's just all about how you feel about yourself," Sharrun expressed.
While Sharrun is competing in Toronto, she needs a platform for their 'Beauty with a Purpose' campaign; Michelle Sharrun's is suicide awareness.
"I do presentations and that kind of stuff on suicide and depression, so I'll be doing my platform as well as a lot of practicing. They make three fun days as well, last year they got to go golfing, the year before they got to meet baby tigers."
Since there is a few days before Toronto, and for after competitions are done, Sharrun is wanting to go around to schools to present her campaign of suicide awareness to students in the area.
"I'm going to be looking for sponsors soon as well. I'll be going around to different businesses looking for sponsors because we do have a foundation that we're going to be donating to, but that hasn't been decided yet."
Good luck, Michelle!
