On Thursday, Aug. 31, the Sunshine Lodge Drumheller held a party to honour a special group of residents.

"We are celebrating all of our residents who are over the age of 90," said Shauna Brown, Acting Activities Manager at the Sunshine Lodge.

Brown said the 90-plus birthday parties haven't been held in recent years.

"This was something that they used to do frequently and they actually had a club. We just decided that it's a good day to have a party."

The party included a live music performer, real china dishes, cake, coffee, tea and punch.

"We've got some music, we've got some cake and refreshments and a lot of camraderie," explained Brown.

There were 24 nonagenarian residents who celebrated their birthdays this year, three of whom were 99 years old. The party was well-attended by family and friends, some from as far away as Vancouver.
