With the temperatures rising and snow melting in order to welcome a beautiful new spring, it's time for your annual spring cleaning.

The city does encourage towns people to prepare for spring cleaning pick ups scheduled between April 30th and May 10th.

"We tossed around the idea whether or not we would change the collection area, just to be more efficient, " informs Tammy Nygaard, Drumheller Regional Landfill Manager. "But the problem is, we never know from one year to the next, which areas are going to be heavy. So if we changed an area and it was our heaviest, we would be back in the same predicament."

Getting prepared for the Town of Drumheller's spring clean-up pick can be easier for you if you prepare yourself in the right ways. For example, if you're cutting any tree branches, make sure they are four feet in length and bound properly together.

"The problem we had last year had to do with leaves in East Coulee that were not bagged. We also noted that people did not want to pay the $15 fee (for Freon appliance removal)." Nygaard continued, "Barry goes around and if he doesn't see an appliance without a sticker on it, he will walk up to the door and ask them if they want to pay the $15 for pick-up. A lot of people refused."

The Drumheller Landfill makes it easy for towns people to dispose of whatever it is that they need disposing of, Nygaard says,

"I don't know of how many actual communities actually do this anymore," Nygaard states, " and if they do it's on a very limited basis. They'll just drive down an alley and say, 'whattya got, just throw it in the bucket' and that's it. That's what you've got for spring clean-up."

Keep yourself prepared for this years pick-up by taking the easy steps to getting rid off all of your unneeded garbage.
