A Canada 150 cross-country initiative made a pit stop in our valley yesterday, August 11.

The Canada 150 Red Couch Tour took off in March of this year.

"The idea of the project came up when my friend Peter came up to my house with a second hand couch about three years ago, put it in a bank of snow, sat there and waited for me. I thought it looked like a Canadian flag, so I thought lets do a project. From there, we did a proposal for a Canada 150 fund," stated one of the tour creators, Ela Kinowska.

So, was Drumheller always a set destination for the Red Couch Tour?

"This journey is about the people we meet on the road. We started from Ottawa all the way east in July, we met this guy named on a campground named Bob who had a big Canada 150 sign. I went up to him and said we're a Canada 150 initiative and he said we had to come to his place, which was Drumheller. We kind of had the itinerary already, but after giving a second thought we looked at the route and said we had to be there," explained Kinowska.

The tour consists of 60 days on the road with 42 stops and a near 20,000 kilometres travelled.

"Just wait until the end of September and visit our website, www.redcouchtour.ca and you will be able to see stories from coast to coast because we've already been to the North. We visited the Northwest Territories and Yukon, so lots of stories from every province and territory in this great country," Kinowska concluded.
