Electric car owners now have a place to recharge in Drumheller.

ATCO Electric has donated a power station for residents and visitors to charge electric vehicles.

"It's a great promotion because we want to see electric vehicles, renewable energies, all that stuff start taking place and this is just the first start," explained Terry Tonsi of ATCO Electric.

The station is located behind the CIBC Drumheller branch neat 1st Street West. Not only does ATCO now have four charging station across the province, they're also purchasing electric company vehicles.

"We have the four electric cars but we also have some hybrids, bigger vehicles like bucket trucks, but as we move forward and the technology becomes available we want to get (electric) bucket trucks and digger trucks," elaborated Tonsi.

Mayor Terry Yemen applauded ATCO for donating the charging station and allowing Drumheller to become part of the Sun Country Highway network.

"The people from ATCO really stepped up well for Drumheller and, like they have in the past, ATCO has always been there for Drumheller," beamed the Mayor.

In addition to the downtown charging station, Ian Miller of Edmonton, and frequent visitor to the valley, donated another electric car charging station located in the Badlands Community Facility parking lot.

Yemen praises the green energy technology of area, noting the nearby wind power structures, solar energy and the new electric car chargers now installed in the community.
