A serious motor vehicle collision took place yesterday, April 18, near Highway 570 and Secondary Highway 866 just west of Oyen.

A van that was travelling westbound on the 570 left the highway and rolled, colliding with a ditch. There were five persons in the van, three of whom were ejected during the rollover and the remaining two had to be extricated from the van.

STARS ended up transferring two of the passengers to a Calgary hospital, while two others were transferred via EMS to a local hospital. All four of the passengers suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the van, a 20 year old male from Saskatoon, was pronounced deceased on scene. His name was not released.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be a contributing factor to this collision and no charges are expected to be laid.
