A Drumheller man has a connection to a hard hitting film that will be screened in Red Deer on December 2.
She Has A Name is a movie, developed from a stage play, that follows the story of a lawyer trying to charge a man for trafficking girls around Asia.
Dean Kohut of Drumheller was the executive producer on the film.
"He came along and really supported us, mainly financially, and really helped us push to the end. I know the issue really moved him," Director Matt Kooman told 99.5 Drum FM.
Kooman added that the movie will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray, on the same day it screens worldwide. She Has A Name will take over theatres everywhere from London, to Johannesburg, Belfast, and Capetown.
The movie was shot on location in Thailand, added Kooman.
"We shot in Bangkok, we shot in a city called Pattaya, and we shot in rural Thailand as well. It's really authentic, and it looks really great."
He added that although the story is a sensitive matter, it is still digestible for audiences, and there is nothing too graphic.
"We've presented it in such a way that it still has a heaviness to it, but its not like you have too look away because you can't watch. We wanted to draw people in to the characters that are involved in this situations, and just how valuable they are, how personable, and how real they are."
The movie has teamed up with the International Justice Mission, and 20% of profits from the movie will go to support that foundation.
"We want to tell stories that have an impact, and stories that matter," Kooman added, "So far, for the film, response has been tremendous, very positive."
