Your Drumheller Dragons played their first home game in two weeks on Friday against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.  It was going to be an epic battle between two very strong teams.

This game was also the annual Teddy Bear Toss game with the stuffed toys being showered on the ice when the Dragons scored their first goal of the game.  Sherwood Park would open the scoring in the first when Garret Clegg scored to make it 1-0 Crusaders.  The Dragons had their chances in the period outshooting Sherwood Park 15-12 but could not score.

The second period was very similar to the first.  The game went back and forth with both teams having chances.  The only goal was late in the second when Sherwood Park added to their lead with a goal by Erik Miller to make it 2-0 Crusaders.  You could tell the Dragons were trying to do what they could to get a goal for their home fans to let the teddy bears fly but it would not happen in the second period.

It was a very physical game, especially in the third period.  The Crusaders would score 4:02 into the period to make it 3-0.  The hits escalated and the referees were trying to keep control of the game.  One of the strong forwards for the Dragons, Roc Truman, received a checking from behind penalty early to send him to the showers.  With 6:23 left, Sherwood Park added another to make it 4-0.  Hope was fading for the Dragons as they came up against a brick wall, and his name was goaltender Matt Berlin.  With 1:48 left to go, Kaden Hanas got a puck past the Crusaders goalie and with that, the teddy bears flew.  It looked as if it was a large collection of stuffed toys for the Salvation Army Christmas Hampers.  A bad hit along the boards against Derrick Budz got things heated at the end of the game with penalties being handed out to both teams.  The final would be 4-1 Crusaders.   The Dragons remain in second place, only one point ahead of the Okotoks Oilers with a game in hand.
