Your Drumheller Dragons got back to work after the Christmas break with a tilt against one of their biggest rivals, the Brooks Bandits.  It was the first time the Bandits had been back to the Memorial Arena since the 11-3 thrashing they were dealt on September 14th.

Brooks was hoping for a better outcome but the Dragons were planning on continuing the dominance.  It did not work out that way.

The first period was a very exciting period to watch.  Both teams had their opportunities.  Drumheller did get three power play opportunities but could not capitalize.  The Bandits also had two power play chances but could not score.  It was all tied at 0-0 after the first with the Dragons outshooting the Bandits 11-7.

In the second, the Bandits would open the scoring on the man advantage when Nathan Plessis scored to make it 1-0 Brooks.  The Bandits would add to their lead with 2:47 left in the period when William Lemay scored his 24th of the year to make it 2-0 Brooks.  With just over a minute left in the period, Drumheller would get on the board on a nice setup play by Shane Ott to Brett Edwards in the slot to make it 2-1 Brooks after two periods.

The power play made the difference in the third period.  Brooks scored on the man advantage at 9:21 when Randy Hernandez scored to make the score 3-1.  Near the end of the period, Dawson Bruneski from the Dragons had a big open ice hit just outside of the Dragons zone.  The referee called a 5 minute major for a blow to the head to give Brooks a power play to end the game.  They did capitalize once with 3:48 left when Brandon Scanlin snapped a shot from the point that got through Hunter Virostek to make it 4-1.  That would be the final.  It was a very intense game between two good teams.  Hunter Virostek played well in net making some key saves early in the game to give Drumheller a chance.
