The J.C. Charyk Hawks are provincial champions!

The Hanna club traveled to Fort McMurray last Friday, November 23 for the final game against St. Joseph's Collegiate School out of Brooks. Hanna was 38-32 to take the title.
It's a big day, hopefully a banner day, for the J.C. Charyk Hawks six man football team out of Hanna.

They're in Fort McMurray for the Football Alberta six man Provincial Championship game.

"They're very excited," admitted Hawks head coach Cam McKeage. "They haven't been in this position for quite a few years now and they're ready to go, they're ready to play."

The opponents are the top ranked St. Joseph's Collegiate Crusaders out of Brooks.

"We played Brooks and it went right down to the last play of the game here in Hanna in early October," rcalled McKeage. "It was a one score game, so I think anything can happen in another game, a championship game."

The Hawks are coming off their best season in years, with their only loss being to St. Joseph's. They're coming off a semi-final that saw them outscore Breton 62-60 last weekend.

"I think both football programs, Drum(heller) and Hanna, have been very good over the years and I think when kids get a taste of the sport, whether it's with the Titans or the Hawks, they usually stick with it and it creates a lot of great memories."

Friday's six man championship game is a 4:00 p.m. start at SMS Equipment Stadium in Fort McMurray.
