Your Drumheller Dragons took to the ice on Friday night to face off against the Calgary Canucks. Drumheller has had some success against the Canucks this year and was hoping that would continue.
It was a special night for the Dragons as they celebrated their billet families for this current season as well as unveiled a new third Dragons jersey which is quite sharp.
The Dragons dominated the first period with the majority of the play deep in the Calgary zone. Drumheller opened the scoring at 8:49 when Brady Risk drove the net short-handed and slid the puck past the Calgary netminder. His 24th of the year unassisted to give the Dragons the 1-0 lead. Drumheller would add another on a great shot by Eric Martin with his 6th from Dylan Wenzel at 13:33 to make it 2-0 Drumheller. The Dragons outshot the Canucks 15-8 in the frame.
Drumheller continued their strong play but did give up some odd-man rushes to the Canucks. Hunter Virostek had to make some spectacular saves to keep it 2-0 Drumheller. The Dragons would add another on a five on three powerplay when Bradley Stonnell teed one up from the point for his 5th on the year at 8:20. Assists went to Brayden Nicholetts and Dawson Bruneski. Drumheller had a 3-0 lead going into the third period.
In the third, Calgary got only their second powerplay of the hockey game and made it count. Brendan Morrow scored to make it 3-1. Then only 13 seconds later, Ethan Rowland got one past Hunter Virostek that he would like back. It made things interesting with a score of 3-2 Drumheller. With 7:00 left to go in the game, Brady Risk would score his second of the game and 25th of the year on a great set up from Derrick Budz and Shane Ott. The Dragons would add one more with 3:33 left when Bradley Stonnell would score his second of the game on the man advantage from Brayden Nicholetts and Dawson Bruneski. The final would be 5-2 Drumheller and will extend the Dragons winning streak to four games.
