Your Drumheller Dragons hosted the Calgary Mustangs for the final game for both teams in the 2018-2019 AJHL Regular Season. A great crowd of 1066 were in attendance to see the Dragons smash a team record.
The Mustangs came out ready to play and had the Dragons on their heels in the first period. The only goal of the first was scored by the Mustangs. Chase Miller scored at 10:52 to give Calgary the 1-0 lead. Drumheller was outshot by Calgary 7-5.
A great discussion must have happened in the first intermission in the Dragons dressing room. Drumheller came out ready to play in the second period. The Dragons got an early powerplay opportunity and took advantage. A nice shot from the point by Bradley Stonnell got by Calgary goaltender Ben Howard to tie the game. It was Stonnell's 8th goal of the year with assists from Brady Risk and Markus Boguslavsky. Both teams had their chances in the period and the game remained tied until there were 46 seconds left. Hassan Akl of the Dragons scored his fifth of the year and second in two games with assists from Eric Martin and Jordan Taupert. The Dragons would get another powerplay chance with 37 seconds left and would capitalize. With 22 seconds left in the period, Derrick Budz scored his 22nd of the year from Brady Risk. Drumheller had a 3-1 lead going into the third period.
In the third, Drumheller would add to their lead quickly. Only 18 seconds into the period, Shane Ott would score his 16th of the year from Derrick Budz and Brady Risk. Drumheller would continue to put on the pressure. The would add one more at 6:16 when Derrick Budz scored his second of the game from Troy Dudley and Shane Ott. The final would be 5-1 in favour of the Dragons. With the win, Drumheller sets a franchise record of 37 wins in a season beating the previous record of 35 wins in a year.

The Dragons now prepare for the AJHL Playoffs which begin on Thursday, March 7. Drumheller will meet the Canmore Eagles in the first round. Game one is in Drumheller on Thursday with a start time of 7:00 pm at the Memorial Arena.
