The Drumheller Minor Hockey Association held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, April 11. The group represents players from Tykes up to Midgets, but it was Novice players who garnered the most attention.
"Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada are making a move to go to half ice sized rinks for Novice play," noted DMHA Preisdent Lyle Cawiezel. "There's lots to work out through that program as to what it looks like with our association: that was probably our major topic, was how that program is going to look in coming years."
"It's the logistics of how a new board system would work, the setting up and taking down of that, dressing room spaces, league scheduling," he explained. "There's a whole other array outside of just the game play that factors into it."
In addition to topics like half rink hockey and the election of directors and DMHA executives, Wednesday's AGM saw the association collect on behalf of the Humboldt Broncos Junior team, which lost about half its members in a bus crash last week.
"We collected just over $600: $266 was donated from St. Anthony's," reported Cawiezel. "The rest came through our members, and then we'll be making a donation on behalf of DMHA."
The size of that donation will be discussed and voted on at the next board meeting.
