It doesn't feel like it outside at the moment, but the softball season isn't all that far away.

The Drumheller Girls Softball Association held their first registration evening of the new year on Monday, January 8.

"We're getting rigged up to start all over again," said president Kent Jensen. "We're going to do (another) registration night in the front lobby of the BCF on Monday the 15th, probably about 6:30 until 8:30 (p.m.)."

"We want to get the girls into the Facility and do some indoor practices this winter, get them ready and see what they can do," he added.

Jensen is hoping to add at least one team to the association this year so that local girls can play right through their teens.

"If we can pull it off there will be U19, U16, U14, U12, U10 and U8," he outlined. "The magic number is about 14 (players) per team. The U8's and U10's, we can go six per team if we change to what they call the jamboree, which is just the infield."

The final division of teams and players depends on registration numbers. Registrations received after January 15 are subject to a late fee. The deadline to register for girls softball in the valley is March 15.
