The Drumheller Dragons hosted the Calgary Mustangs on Friday night.  They were hoping for a better outcome than the last time the two teams met in Calgary.

Drumheller fell to Calgary in their last meeting 6 - 1.  The last time the two teams met in Drumheller, the Dragons pulled out the OT win.  It was not meant to be tonight.

The Dragons started off well in the first, opening up the scoring at 4:19 when Blake Kleiner scored from Jordan Taupert.  Calgary equaled five minutes later when Daniel Rybarik scored on the power play, to make it a 1 - 1 game.  Both teams struggled to get out of their own zone in the period.  Calgary took the lead with their second power play goal of the evening with only 25 seconds left in the period.  Jackson Salt scored from Salvatore Scalise and Jarret Timmerman.  2 - 1 Calgary after 1.  Drumheller out shot Calgary 11 - 9 in the period.

The second was back and forth between these two teams.  Drumheller had pressure but either couldn't get their shots through or just missing on their opportunities.  Calgary struggled to get shots on goal as they only had 2 shots in the period.  Drumheller tied it up with just over 1 minute left as Brett Edwards scored from Brayden Nicholetts.  Tied at 2 with Drumheller out shooting Calgary 18 - 11 through two periods.

The third was similar to the second.  There was no flow to the game.  Each team had pressure but could not score.  Drumheller ended up taking a penalty with only 44 seconds left to go in the third.  It was a double minor so the remaining 3:16 would carry over to overtime if the Mustangs could not score.  They did not and the teams remained tied and headed to overtime.

In overtime, Calgary had the pressure with the 4 on 3 power play.  With 1:49 left in OT on the power play, the Mustangs Tyler Lentz sneaked one past Hunter Virostek to give Calgary the victory.  Drumheller out shot Calgary 27 - 17 in the game but Calgary out shot Drumheller 3 - 0 in overtime.

With the win, Calgary is only two points behind Drumheller in the standings but the Dragons have three games in hand.
