The Michichi Reservoir is going to be a popular place on August 26 as the fishing derby, formally known as the Ryan Savary Memorial Fishing Derby, takes over.
"It's been going on for a lot of years, there's been a lot of interest from locals and the regulars that frequently visit the dam out there. It's been a pretty interesting and active derby over the years," stated event organizer Glen Riep.
The event will be the same as it has been in previous years, but with a few family friendly changes.
"Basically the same format, so to speak. There is guidelines that we have to follow by the province as far as the catch and release programs, the guidelines have been a bit more enforced. We are hosting more, like barbecues, trying to promote the event and get kids into it," Riep noted.
So, do participants need to pre-register for the event?
"The registration is the day of the event, there is no pre-registration. Show up, we start at 7:00 in the morning and it will run until 4:00 p.m., hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll have a successful event," Riep concluded.
