Our Drumheller Dragons had an up and down weekend this past weekend.
It all started on the road against the Olds Grizzlys. This year the Grizzlys have played quite well against the Dragons winning two of the previous three matchups. Going into the game, the Grizzlys were only eight points back of the Dragons in the AJHL South standings.
The leading goal getter for your Drumheller Dragons, Bradley Gallo would strike first with his 19th goal of the year, from Hudson Gainer and Easton Daneault at 10:43 of the first period. The Grizzlys would tie the game only 28 seconds later with a goal by Junshi Hideshima. The game would be tied 1-1 after one period.
In the the second, special teams would be a difference maker, all in the Dragons favour. Bradley Gallo would score his second goal of the game, 20th of the season, from Easton Daneault and Will McLaughlin on the power play, giving the Dragons a 2-1 lead. Later in the second period, the Dragons, again on the power play, would capitalize with Nathan Hawkins scoring his fourth of the year, from Reily Pickford and Nick McLennan.
Olds would do what they could to get back in the game, but the Dragons would make things difficult, not allowing too many good scoring chances in the third. With 10 seconds left in the game, the Dragons would again be on the man advantage and we believed that Nathan Hawkins scored his second of the game, but on the scoresheet is was Cameron Johnson scoring his first of the year, from Ayden Peters and Aiden Connell to make the final 4-1 Drumheller.

The Dragons were back on the ice, this time at home facing the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday night. The Kodiaks have been playing well, coming off a shut out win on Friday night in Bonnyville.
It would be a low scoring affair. The only five on five goal would be scored by AJ Schaaf of the Kodiaks in the first period at 13:16. The Dragons would have some great chances in front of goaltender Carter Capton. One shot went off a Dragon in front and just missed going in.
The Dragons were frustrated as they all wanted to score the goal to first tie the game, and second allow the fans to toss all of their stuffed animals on the ice with the annual Teddy Bear Toss.
Unfortunately, it was not in the cards for the Dragons as Camrose would end the scoring with an empty net goal with 1:49 left in the third period to give Camrose the 2-0 win. The fans did toss their teddy bears at the end of the game. No word yet on the number of stuffed animals collected for the Salvation Army and Drumheller Hospital.
