Your Drumheller Dragons finished off their three game weekend on the road in Whitecourt on Sunday afternoon.
Going into the game, the Dragons knew it was going to be a battle as the two previous meetings against the Wolverines were one goal differentials. The power play would be a factor early as Whitecourt would open the scoring on the man advantage at 7:48 with Ewan McPherson scoring his 7th of the year, giving the Wolverines the 1-0 lead. The Dragons would have opportunities but the game would remain 1-0 after one period.
In the second, Whitecourt would extend their lead at 5:08 with Marcella Giorgi scoring his 3rd of the year, making it 2-0. The Dragons would get one back with Devon Winder scoring his 3rd of the year, from Tate Yule, cutting the deficit to 2-1 Whitecourt. The Dragons would tie the game at 7:47 with Lauchlan Kozicky scoring his second goal in two games, unassisted. Drumheller would get in some penalty trouble in the period, and Whitecourt would capitalize. Kyle Tucker would score his 6th on the season, giving the Wolverines the 3-2 lead. Then, a timely goal by Whitecourt made the hill that much larger for the Dragons as Joey Vetrano netted his 3rd of the season, on the power play, with only 30 seconds left in the period. Whitecourt would take the 4-2 lead into the third period.
Early in the third, Braden Keeble would score on the power play increasing the Wolverines lead to 5-2. The Dragons would get one back with 1:54 remaining as Lauchlan Kozicky would score his second of the game, making it 5-3. That is how the game would end with the Wolverines taking the 5-3 victory.
