The DVSS Dynos Senior Girls Volleyball team has been having a year to remember.
The team has had significant success both in their league games as well as the numerous tournaments they’ve played so far this year. Erica Crocker, Head Coach, has been impressed with the team’s play so far this year. “We have a tremendous team. We have 10 athletes who just love the sport of volleyball. They work hard, they’re gritty, they’re tenacious, and our season has been so successful so far.” Crocker shares that the team has won 26 of the 30 matches they have played this season throughout South Central Alberta.
The work the team has been putting in and their success is being noticed province wide. “We are thrilled through the ASAA (Alberta School Athletics Association) in the first round of rankings across the province for the 2A schools, that the DVSS Dynos are currently ranked fifth in the province. It’s very very exciting. The girls have worked hard and they deserve it.”
The team plays in the South Central Alberta league and our currently undefeated. They have been up against some strong teams comments Crocker. “In terms of the toughest battle, it has certainly been the Three Hills Royals. That school has always put up a very tough team. They are the only team in our league that we have gone to a third set to (matches are best of three). They’ve definitely have kept our fans on the edge of their seats.”
As the season winds down, Crocker notes that the team still have a couple of league games left. For them to host playoffs, they need to maintain their position in first place. The league final is on November 13th.
Wednesday night (October 23) is the final regular season home game where the Senior players (players that are graduating this year) are recognized. On November 8th and 9th the team will be in Morrin participating in the Regional Tournament to determine placing in Zones. The Zones will be in Diamond Valley on November 15th and 16th.
