UPDATE: The Town of Drumheller has rescinded the fire ban due to the precipitation we have received this week and the community is now under a Fire Restriction.
These changes will allow residents and visitors to again use their fire pits and charcoal briquette BBQ’s. Fireworks continue to be prohibited.
A number of campers and those looking to be spending time around a fire in the evenings will be disappointed.
As of Friday, July 19th at 9:00 AM, the Town of Drumheller is under a fire ban. The Town of Drumheller sent out a release earlier Friday morning. that a fire ban has been issued for the Town of Drumheller due to the elevated fire danger as a period of high heat and low moisture continues. The fire ban also applies all communities within the Drumheller Valley.
This fire ban includes all open fires and prohibits the use of the following items and all other items not explicitly mentioned as permitted below:
- Wood or briquette campfires
- Recreational Fire Pits
- Wood, charcoal or briquette barbecues
- Outdoor wood-burning stoves (including cooking shelters)Turkey fryers
- Tiki torches
Consumer and Commercial Fireworks are forbidden.
Lighting or maintaining fires is strictly prohibited and includes all front and backcountry campgrounds and day-use areas.
Use of the following items are permitted during the fire ban provided they are under the direct supervision and certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or Underwriters Laboratories (UL):
- Portable propane fire pits
- Natural Gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for cooking or heating
- Propane or gas-fueled lanterns (enclosed flame)
- Patio heaters (propane, catalytic, or infrared/radiant)
