Your Drumheller Dragons paid their first visit to the GFL Twin Arenas in Devon to face the Devon Xtreme.
Coming off a big win in Drayton Valley the night before, Drumheller was hopeful that would bode well going into the game Saturday night. Devon would be ready for the challenge.
Devon would open the scoring at 13:32 of the first with an unassisted goal by their top scorer Tyler Pretty. Just over a minute later, Devon added to their lead with a goal by Levy Kozma. Drumheller would get on the board with 3:31 left in the first with Aiden Connell scoring his sixth of the year, from Cameron Johnsen and Logan Peskett. Then on a beautiful set up by Logan Peskett, Aiden Connell (7) would score his second of the period, from Peskett and Tristan Serrao. The game would be tied going into the intermission, 1-1.
The Dragons would take their first lead of the hockey game at 6:09 of the second period, when Lachlan Kozicky scored his eighth of the season, from Luca Dufour and Cameron Johnsen. Devon would tie the game with 2:19 remaining in the period with the second goal of the game by Levy Kozma. Both teams were searching for a spark and a heavyweight tilt between Dragons defenseman Tristan Serrao and Devon forward Harrison Boldt did that for Drumheller. Only 8 seconds after the fight, Lachlan Kozicky (9) would score his second of the period, assisted by Allen Sherpa and Tate Yule, giving the Dragons the lead once again, 4-3, into the second intermission.
Into the third period the Dragons would add to their lead when Brec Christenson scored his first as a Dragon, assisted by Tristan Payne and Bradley Gallo making it 5-3 Drumheller. Late in the third, Devon would pull their goaltender for the extra attacker and would capitalize, when Tyler Pretty scored his second of the game with 1:36 left. The Xtreme would struggle to get possession of the puck in the final minute, to get goaltender Preston Lewis out again for the extra player. Drumheller would hold on to the 5-4 lead for the win.
