A tradition in the Drumheller Valley that has happened at many different restaurants over the years, continues at Yavis Family Restaurant again this Christmas.
It is the Community Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. The community comes together to make sure everyone in the Drumheller Valley has a place for Christmas dinner. Ken Routh from Yavis Family Restaurant shares that they really enjoy being able to support the community in this way. “For us it’s giving back to the community. Right now, it’s really tough out there for people, money wise, support wise. This is a place where they can get together, just enjoy the day, have meals, no worries.”
Routh and the team appreciates all the support they receive from the community so they can put this on. “It’s support from businesses, plus the community for the volunteers, which has been huge for us for the last few years.” There is still opportunities to volunteer and Routh shares that you can either reach out to Yavis or the Salvation Army to offer your help.
As in years’ past, they will again be offering pickup and delivery service. “We have the pick up service,” shares Routh. “We have delivery, in town only. Both sides, the lounge and restaurant will be open to all, including families.”
Routh shared that preparation of the meal is already underway, with some of the prep work beginning last Wednesday. Last year they had over 500 guests attend. This year there is so far about 400 pounds of turkey and 300 pounds of stuffing that will be prepared for the meal on Wednesday.
The meal will be available from 11:30 until 3:30 at Yavis Family Restaurant on Christmas Day.
