There has been much discussion about the announcement at the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce meeting in March.
Also during that Annual General Meeting, a couple of new directors were welcomed to the organization. Every year there are typically one or two terms available on the Chamber board. Executive Director Heather Bitz shares the details on the vacancies for this year. “We had six director positions up for election. Fortunately, we filled four of those seats, two of those are remaining. Lana Phillips, Tunji Bello, and Rahul Gunjal, have returned to the Chamber board. They were re-elected. Our new person on the board is Michael Love from Community Futures.”
When it comes to being on the Chamber’s Board of Directors, Bitz confirms that there are limitations on the number of times you can be elected. “Currently, our bylaws allow directors to serve two terms of three years each. Lana, Tunji, and Rahul, all three of them, were all eligible for re-election for another term.”
Bitz also shares that there was changes to the bylaws presented at the Annual General Meeting. “The other item on our agenda was proposed changes to our bylaws. Those did receive approval by our members. We now have to send them on to Corporations Canada for official approval. If approved, they will see changes to our Board of Director terms, going forward next year. Because the Chamber is incorporated under the Boards of Trade Act, our bylaws have to fit within the confines of the Boards of Trade Act. They only allow one year director terms but we would still allow directors to serve a maximum of six years.” The Board would need to be re-elected every year moving forward if the new bylaws are approved.
