Unfortunately, the 2024-2025 season for your Drumheller Dragons wrapped up last night in front of the Dragons faithful fans at the hands of the Calgary Canucks.
The Dragons were hoping to turn the tables on the Canucks who came into game 4 with a three games to none lead in the AJHL South Division Final. Drumheller had not been able to get the lead in any of the three previous games and were hoping to do so in Game 4.
The two teams would have their chances in the first period. It would be an even period of hockey with the teams equal in shots after one period, 6-6, and the score remaining tied 0-0.
Calgary would get the lead early in the second period when Hayden Fechner scored his fourth of the playoffs at 3:30. Drumheller would tie the game 1-1 at 8:36, when Allen Sherpa scored his third of the postseason, from Tristan Payne and Kai Matthew on the powerplay. Less than a minute later, the Canucks would regain the lead as Nolan DuPont scored his first of the playoffs, from Kenny Sutton and Riley Bracko. The second period would end with the Dragons down 2-1.
Calgary would make things more difficult for the Dragons early in the third period as Jack Plandowski scored his fourth of the postseason at 4:14, making it 3-1 Canucks. Just over four minutes later, the Canucks would add another as Hayden Fechner scored his second of the game on the powerplay. With over two minutes left in the game, the Dragons would pull goaltender Matthew Kondro for an extra attacker. Drumheller would score one more when Ayden Peters scored his second of the playoffs, from Aiden Connell and Will McLaughlin. Calgary would stop the Dragons in their tracks with an empty net goal with 22 seconds left, by Luc Trevors, to make the final 5-2. The Calgary Canucks now move on to face the Grande Prairie Storm for the InterPipeline Cup starting a week from Friday.

Game Stars
Calgary – Hayden Fechner (2G)
Drumheller – Tate Yule (20 year old Captain of the Dragons)
With the loss, that eliminates the Dragons from the AJHL Playoffs for this season. The game also would be the final time in a Dragons uniform for the three of our 20 year old players, #12 Tristan Serrao, #13 Ayden Peters, and Captain #3 Tate Yule. Things look promising for the Dragons for next year as Drumheller was one, if not the youngest team, in the AJHL for the 2024-2025 season.
