The Town of Drumheller has been working to connect 6th Avenue by Canadian Tire to the downtown core by creating a street between the traffic lights and Railway Avenue.
Back in January the Town of Drumheller posted the Request For Proposal (RFP) for the construction of the new street. The deadline for the proposal was extended by two weeks, to March 7th to allow additional time for bidders to complete their submissions that would fully address the Request For Proposal.
There were three companies that submitted proposals and all three were evaluated by a review committee. Unfortunately, two of the three submissions did not meet the mandatory requirements. The only proposal to meet the requirements was East Butte Contracting from Picture Butte, AB.
Capital Project Manager for the Town of Drumheller, Jason Warrack presented to Drumheller Town Council on Monday, April 7th and recommended that council accept East Butte Contracting for the RFP, sharing that they are a reputable contractor in Alberta. The proposal did come in over budget but with additional funding available due to the 2025 Street Improvement Program coming in under budget, the funding was proposed to be moved from the Street Improvement Program to this project, to the tune of $355,414.59.
The total budget for the construction of the road was just under $1.7 million, including watermain and sewer work involved with the project. Council approved the proposal and work is anticipated to be complete by the fall of 2025.

The current site of the recycling bins by Community Futures will need to move due to the construction of the 6th Avenue extension between Highway 9 and Railway Avenue
The construction will mean the current recycling depot along Railway Avenue will have to move. The new location of the recycling bins has yet to be determined.
