Your Drumheller Dragons kicked off their second round series against the Calgary Canucks on Friday night.
The Dragons knew they would be in tough against the first place Canucks but have had some success against this team this year. Going into the series, the Canucks won the season series four games to two with the Dragons winning their previous meeting earlier in March by.a 6-3 margin.
Calgary would open up the scoring early, only 1:08 into the first period when Jack Plandowski scored his second of the playoffs, from Bowden Singleton. The Dragons would have their opportunities but would trail Calgary 1-0 after one period.
In the second, the Canucks would increase their lead at 8:00 when Luc Trevors scored his fifth of the postseason. The Dragons would get their first power play opportunity and would capitalize when Bradley Gallo scored his fifth of the playoffs, assisted by Easton Daneault and Brec Christensen at 9:13, making it 2-1 Canucks. Just over two minutes later, Calgary would score on the power play when Rhett Melnyk scored his third of the postseason, allowing Calgary to regain their two goal lead, 3-1.
Drumheller would mount a comeback in the third period when Bradley Gallo scored his second of the game (6), assisted by Allen Sherpa and Ayden Peters at 5:29, making it 3-2 Calgary. Drumheller would make things interesting midway through the period as Kia Matthew would score the game tying goal (3) at 9:23, assisted by Allen Sherpa and Jase Johnstone. Calgary would regain the lead with 4:41 remaining when Riley Bracko scored his second of the playoffs, making it 4-3 Canucks. The Dragons would pull netminder Matthew Kondro with just over a minute left but could not get the equalizer. Calgary would take game one by a 4-3 margin.
