Our Drumheller Dragons have been on quite a heater over the past three weeks. Going into their game on Tuesday night, the Dragons have won the past six games, and were looking to make it seven.
Their opponent, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons are in the midst of a southern road trip with their third game of the trip being here in Drumheller on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the Oil Barons, sickness is going through the team, with adjustments on the lineup having to be made just before and during the game. That being said, they put up a pretty good fight.
The Dragons would open the scoring in the first period with Logan Peskett scoring his second as a Dragon, from Bradley Gallo and Tate Yule. Drumheller would outshoot Fort McMurray 11-4 and would take the 1-0 lead into the second period.
Drumheller would again find the back of the net in the second period, midway through, when Allen Sherpa scored his eighth of the year from Luca Dufour and Hudson Gainer. Drumheller would again dominate the shot total, outshooting the Oil Barons by 9-4.
In the third, a pretty goal was scored by Kai Matthew, essentially going bar down with his seventh of the season, from Bradley Gallo and Easton Daneault. Unfortunately, Dragons netminder Matthew Kondro’s shutout streak would end at 139:09 when Spencer Kunz scored for Fort McMurray, making it 3-1 Drumheller. then, two minutes later, Justin Dumais scored for the Oil Barons to bring their team within one goal, 3-2. Dragons forward Aiden Connell scored the insurance goal (7) for our Dragons with 4:447 left, assisted by Nick McLennan and Brec Christenson. Fort McMurray would pull goaltender Vincent Filion with just under two minutes remaining, and Dragons top scorer, Bradley Gallo, scored his league leading 29th of the year, from Ayden Peters into the empty net, giving the Dragons the 5-3 victory.
