Our Drumheller Dragons were back on home ice this weekend with a tough task, the best team in the AJHL South in town to face them.
On Friday night, the Canmore Eagles paid their second visit to the Memorial Arena looking to continue their domination against the Dragons this year. Drumheller had something else in mind.
Canmore came out strong in the first period but the Dragons were able to weather the storm. Drumheller would get on the board first when Kai Matthew scored his fourth of the year, from Luca Dufour, making it 1-0 at 13:46, on the powerplay. Just over a minute later Tristan Payne scored his first of the season, from Ellis Mieyette and Bradley Gallo, giving the Dragons the 2-0 lead through one period of hockey.
In the second, Drumheller came out with fire and Ayden Peters scored his 16th of the year at 3:31, from Logan Peskett, making it 3-0 Dragons. Only 15 seconds later, Allen Sherpa would score his 7th of the season, from Nathan Hawkins and Lachlan Kozicky, giving the Dragons the 4-0 lead. The Eagles would get one back at 8:56 when team leading scorer, Rhett Dekowny scored on the powerplay, making it 4-1 Drumheller.
Only one more goal would be scored in the game and Kai Matthew would score it for our Dragons with 13 minutes left in the third period. It would be his second of the game, fifth of the year, assisted by Ayden Peters.

Then at 6:55, Ayden Peters would score his second in two games (17), assisted by Easton Daneualt and Bradley Gallo on the man advantage, making it 2-0 Dragons.
There would be no scoring in the second but Lloydminster would test Drumheller netminder Matthew Kondro. With some help from his defensemen, they would keep the Bobcats at bay.
Drumheller would increase their lead in the third period when Easton Daneault would score his second of the game, on the powerplay, from Will McLaughlin and Ayden Peters at 4:03.
