Many have known that there is a liquidation store along Highway 9 South in Drumheller, but some may not know that it has changed its name and expanded.
The former Save-A-Ton store is now known as Sun City Liquidations, part of chain of liquidation stores located in the Okanagan of BC. They have also grown in size with two buildings now instead of one. Mitchell Tew, Manager of Sun City Liquidations explains how they ended up taking over the store in the Drumheller valley. “We actually knew the owners very well of Save-A-Ton and he was looking to move out of Drum, looking to retire a little bit and back off of his business. My Dad and him are good friends, so Wayne approached my Dad and said I have this building in Drumheller, it’s a prime location, I have wonderful staff, and we had to jump on the opportunity. It was too lucrative not to.” Tew admits that the location fits their company well, with the size of the population and the care and service they like to provide in communities like Drumheller.
An opportunity presented itself to expand into the large building north of the store and Tew, and his team, couldn’t pass it up. “It was a huge opportunity for us to move over here. We were waiting on some construction in the furniture side building and it finally finished off. It only took me a day to get it all set up. That’s how excited I was to get in here. Now, it’s just a matter of sorting through the warehouse full of furniture that we do have and setting them up on the floor.”
New items are coming in quite often with both the general merchandise and furniture according to Tew. “Generally, our product in our regular store comes in, at maximum, every three weeks. It all depends on how much moves out of the store. The furniture side, that just depends how much furniture we move. If I can move more furniture, I can bring in more furniture and it will be constantly be different stuff.” Being a liquidation outlet, Tew admits they will always have different items and will not know what some of the products may be until it reaches their truck.
With the furniture items they bring in items at different price points and quality to fit everyone’s budget. “Right now, we are fairly lucky that 90 percent in the furniture warehouse is brand new. We have ranging from $1,000 for a sleeper sectional all the way up to $4,600 for an Italian leather sectional that retails for $9,000. We really try and run the gambit so there is choice and you’re still getting prime product for liquidation price.”
The store is located at 802 Highway 9 E, in Drumheller and they are open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, closing at 4 PM on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The store will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. To find out more about Sun City Liquidations, visit their Facebook page.
