Some unfortunate news from the Village of Rockyford over the weekend.
In a release on their social media page. the Village shared that at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th, the Rockyford Fire Department responded to a call at the Rockyford Arena. Upon arrival, high levels of carbon monoxide were detected inside the building. The arena was promptly evacuated, and ATCO was contacted to assess the situation. It was determined that a radiant heater was defective and causing the emissions to vent into the building.
The 911 call was made by a hockey team using the ice that day after several children became ill with high carbon monoxide exposure. The affected children were transported to the hospital, three of whom spent the night at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.
The Village of Rockyford and the Rockyford Ag Society extend our best wishes for a swift and full recovery to all those affected.
The arena will remain closed until the necessary repairs to the heaters are completed and a follow-up inspection is conducted to ensure the safety of all. The Village and Ag Society will be working collaboratively to ensure public safety.
