A tough task was ahead for your Drumheller Dragons on Friday night as they needed a bounce back game after coming off a loss against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons the night before.
The Dragons came out to play in period one as they would get on the board just over one minute into the game. Louis Nadeau would score his first of the season, assisted by Easton Daneault, at 1:01. Drumheller would continue to press but the Oil Barons would tie the game at 10:53 when Ryan Arnold scored his 11th of the year. The Dragons would regain the lead with 7:24 left when captain Tate Yule would score his first of the year, from again Easton Daneault. Only two minutes later, Fort McMurray would again tie the game 2-2 when Ryan Arnold would score his second of the game, on the power play.
In the second, the Oil Barons would take their first lead of the game 5:10 into the second period, when Cody Nordstrom shot from the point and the fluttering puck would get by Dragons goaltender Matthew Kondro to make it 3-2. The Dragons would tie the game 3-3 when Easton Daneault scored his 10th of the year, third point in the game, assisted by Tate Yule and Bradley Gallo at 10:57. Just over a minute later, Drumheller would retake the lead with Ayden Peters scoring his 12th of the season, from affiliate Rowan McDonald and Aiden Connell. Drumheller would take the 4-3 lead into the third period.
Early on in the third, Fort McMurray would again tie the game when Justin Dumais scored his fifth of the year at 5:10. The Dragons wouldn’t quit and would capitalize on the power play with a goal by Jase Johnstone (4), assisted by Bradley Gallo. Drumheller would hold on to the 5-4 lead and with just over two minutes remaining, the Oil Barons would pull goaltender Vincent Filion. Jase Johnstone would win a number of key faceoffs in the Dragons zone to help keep Fort McMurray from tying the hockey game. With 10.1 seconds left, Dragons forward Bradley Gallo would find the empty net, for his 21st goal of the year, assisted by Jase Johnstone and Easton Daneualt. Drumheller would take the win 6-4.
