This past weekend, the DVSS Senior Girls Dynos participated in the Zone championships in Diamond Valley.
The competition was fierce, as to be expected, as the winner of the tournament would move on to the 2A Volleyball Provincials in Wainwright this upcoming weekend. Going into the tournament, Head Coach Erica Crocker knew the team would have to continue their hard work ethic to get through. She’s so proud that the team was able to defend their zone championship again this year. “When you come into the tournament, defending the banner, there is always that little bit of pressure, but the Dynos are so excited to be heading to Wainwright on Wednesday to compete with the best of the best of the 2A schools across Alberta.”
It was not easy getting through and the final was tough against one of their biggest rivals, the Morrin Mustangs. Morrin battled hard and made the Dynos earn every point to repeat as zone champions.
As the team heads into their second Provincial Championship in as many years, Crocker and the team appreciates what they’ve learned from being in the championship tournament last year. “So I’ve got a team of ten and eight of them are athletes that went to provincials last year, so that part is really exciting to have a deep bench that has experience at this level. Some of the lessons learned last year was that you have to keep your foot on the gas the entire time. Last year, we were just thrilled to be there, so this year we have a little bit of a different perspective coming in thinking that (provincial champions) is a true possibility.” The Dynos are ranked 6th heading into the tournament and will face 11 other teams from around the province. Calgary Christian, who won last year, is back to defend their provincial championship.
Crocker and the Dynos truly appreciate all the support they have and continue to receive from the fans and families of the players and can’t wait to see the support in Wainwright this weekend.
