UPDATE #2: Drumheller RCMP are advising that Highway 9 near highway 836 has been re opened for regular traffic.
On Nov. 14, 2024 shortly after 7:00 a.m., Drumheller RCMP with the assistance of 3 local Fire departments and EMS responded to a report of a head on collision at that location. Upon arrival officers began an investigation into the collision which involved a detached semi tractor truck and a sedan. The incident resulted in the shut down of the highway for several hours as the RCMP collision analyst team facilitated their investigation.
A male from Carbon Alta. was declared deceased at the scene. Two other occupants from the sedan were transported to hospital for the treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi truck suffered minor injuries and was treated and released on scene. The circumstances of the collision reman under investigation.
The officers of the Drumheller RCMP send their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

UPDATE: Drumheller RCMP along with Carbon Fire and Rescue continue to be on scene of the collision near Carbon Corner. Traffic is now getting through but is restricted to one lane of alternating traffic. Single lane traffic is anticipated for several hours according to Staff Sergeant Rob Harms of the Drumheller RCMP

Drumheller RCMP is currently on scene at a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 836. Please plan ahead and avoid the area if possible as traffic cannot proceed through at this time. Traffic is asked to detour using Range Roads 233 and 231. This route is expected to be closed for sometime.
An update will be sent out when the scene is clear.
